# Do solar panels require more energy to manufacture than they will produce in their lifetimes?

No, although solar panels do require energy to be manufactured, it typically takes less than four years for the panel’s energy production to exceed the energy cost of its production. Solar panels can last 30 years or more, so in their lifetime will produce much more energy than it costs to produce them!
